Early last September, a gay American leather biker friend on social media who is a regular viewer of my blog informed me, much to my surprise but gratitude, that it was attracting a sizeable following among gay male viewers, especially from the leather community worldwide. So, in response to his suggestion, and also his assurance that it would prove popular among them, I prepared a leather bar-themed gallery (click here to view it). I based its pictures upon his descriptions of what such establishments, as frequented by leather bikers, looked like inside, never having visited one myself. Although, as he predicted, that gallery has since indeed received (and continues to receive) a very respectable hits count, I've lately received a few communications from viewers of it enquiring why I hadn't included any BLUF bikers in any of its pictures. There is in fact a very good reason for this - namely, until reveiving those viewers' communications I'd never actually heard of BLUF bikers or BLUF itself.
Consequently, I duly swotted up, and it turns out that BLUF (which stands for the Breeches and Leather Uniform Fanclub, founded in 1997 & currently with around 6,000 members globally) is an international fraternal organisation of gay, straight, bi & trans men who share a love of leather breeches (specifically those with balloon-like side projections) and/or full leather uniforms (as in leather jacket, leather shirt, leather tie, leather jeans, leather jackboots, leathetr gloves & leather muir cap, all of which are most commonly black leather). It seems likely that Tom of Finland's iconic artwork depicting leathermen like Kake may have been an inspiration here...
Moreover, there are apparently quite a few BLUF bikers, i.e. bikers who are fans of black leather uniforms & wear them while riding their machines. In contrast, non-biker uniform-loving BLUF members often wear their gear only for attending BLUF functions or visiting leather bars & other leather community-related social gatherings (thus ensuring that their gear stays immaculate, which generally isn't the case for very long when wearing leather while riding motorbikes).
Anyway, now that I know something about BLUF, its longstanding, well-delineated existence & its relevance to the leather bar scene, I've created herewith a dedicated BLUF-themed gallery, in which I've included below a selection of pictures depicting some BLUF bikers who are into black leather uniforms & wear them while motorbiking. I hope that those viewers who kindly informed me about BLUF & all of my blog's other viewers too will enjoy them.
