A MEETING OF BIKERS WITH SKY & SPACE MEDUSAE

Although he is most famous for creating the literary master detective Sherlock Holmes & the dinosaur-infested Lost World, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle also wrote a well-regarded collection of sci fi-themed short stories, of which my own personal favourite has always been 'The Horror of the Heights' (first published in the November 1913 issue of The Strand Magazine). In it, an early aviator ascends to a level in our planet's upper atmosphere never before officially attained by human fliers - where he duly confirms his long-held but hitherto-unproven suspicions that it is home to an entire ecosystem populated by scientifically-unknown species of huge, but gelatinous, semi-solid, wholly aerial creatures. Some resemble serpentine dragon-like beasts, others are reminiscent of gigantic floating jellyfishes or medusae, i.e. all veritable sky beasts that have evolved to survive & thrive exclusively within this most rarefied of realms - a bona fide 'air-jungle', as the aviator dubbed it.

Similarly, one of my favourite publications by sci fi author Arthur C. Clarke is his 1971 novella A Meeting With Medusa, in which an astronaut travels in a specialised balloon-like craft down through the upper atmospheric strata encompassing the giant gas planet Jupiter. Within these strata, he encounters a huge floating jellyfish-like species - this novella's titular medusa.

Clearly, therefore, I've always found the concept of sky medusae a most appealing, intriguing one, just like I've always done with sky whales. So, having recently posted a gallery of pix devoted to bikers riding sky whales through the cloud-dappled skies of their giant Bikerverse gas planet world, Balaena (click here to visit this gallery), I've now prepaed one devoted to bikers encountering a vast diversity of sky medusae, inhabiting the upper realms of many different planets throughout the Bikerverse.

Moreover, some of them are even capable of drifting unconstrained through the Bikerverse's vast interstellar & intergalactic voids & vacuums, rather than remaining confined within the skies of any single given planet.
